Diani Beach Transfers & Travel Guide

Since the Dongo Kundu bypass opened, airport and SGR transfers to Diani skip Mombasa island and the Likoni ferry. The route joins the South Coast highway at Kibundani, passes Kombani, and at Ukunda turns onto the short link road past the airstrip that meets Diani Beach Road.

On the way you pass Dongo Kundu bypass, Kibundani, Kombani and Ukunda.

Hotels and villas line Diani Beach Road, which runs north–south parallel to the sea for most of the beach’s length. The Diani Beach Shopping Centre is the usual reference point; Galu and Kinondo at the southern end are quieter.

Colobus Conservation: Primate rescue centre on Diani Beach Road, known for the rope “colobridges” over the road; guided eco-tours.

Kaya Kinondo: Sacred forest of the Digo community. Visits are with a Digo guide, wearing a kaniki cloth, and without photos.

Kongo Mosque: Centuries-old coral-stone mosque at the northern tip of Diani Beach.

Shimba Hills National Reserve: Forest reserve with Kenya’s only breeding herd of Roosevelt’s sable antelope, about 30 km inland.

If you fly domestically, Diani’s own airstrip at Ukunda (UKA) is 10–20 minutes from most hotels. We meet those flights too.
