Getting to Tiwi
The transfer takes the Dongo Kundu bypass from the airport side of Mombasa, joins the South Coast highway at Kibundani, passes the Kombani junction and turns left towards the sea about 7 km before Ukunda.
On the way you pass Dongo Kundu bypass, Kibundani and Kombani.
Where visitors stay
Most stays are beach cottages, self-catering houses, small lodges and the long-running Twiga Lodge campsite, reached by two access roads from the main South Coast highway.
Things to do in Tiwi
Tiwi Beach: Reef lagoon close to shore, with rock pools at low tide, including the continent-shaped “Africa pool”.
Kongo Mosque: Fourteenth- to fifteenth-century coral-stone mosque at the mouth of the Mwachema (Kongo) River, where Tiwi meets the northern tip of Diani.
Local tip
There are two access roads to Tiwi Beach. The northern one is a sandy track that gets rough after rain; the southern one is wider. Tell us the property name and we will take the better road for it.

Is Tiwi far from Diani?
No, the two beaches are next to each other. Driving between them usually takes around 20–35 minutes, because you go back out to the main highway and cross the Mwachema River.
