The drive from Moi International to Watamu
From Mombasa the transfer runs the full North Coast road through Kilifi and past the Arabuko Sokoke forest, then turns off at the Gede junction for the last few kilometres into Watamu.
On the way you pass Mtwapa Creek Bridge, Kilifi Bridge, Arabuko Sokoke and Gede. Weekday rush hours around Mombasa (roughly 07:00–09:00 and 16:30–19:00) can add 20–30 minutes.
Where we drop off in Watamu
Hotels and villas line Watamu’s bays: Turtle Bay runs south from the headland towards the mouth of Mida Creek, Blue Bay lies to the north, and Jacaranda Bay is a quieter 10 km beach further north towards Malindi. Some lodges sit on the edge of Mida Creek.
Regular drop-offs include Watamu village, Turtle Bay, Blue Bay, Garoda Beach, Jacaranda Bay and Mida Creek. Once you have settled in, Watamu Marine National Park and Mida Creek are close by.
Good to know before you land
Malindi Airport is about 20 km, or 20–30 minutes, from Watamu. If a domestic flight works for you, it saves around two hours in the car compared with flying into Mombasa.
Uber and Bolt work at the airport, but on a 120 km trip drivers sometimes decline, or ask to switch to cash once they see the luggage. A pre-booked car removes that uncertainty after a long flight.
