Local tip
Malindi Airport is about 20 km, or 20–30 minutes, from Watamu. If a domestic flight works for you, it saves around two hours in the car compared with flying into Mombasa.

How long is the transfer from Watamu to Shimoni?
Plan on 3h–4h15 for about 200 km. We are happy to add a stop on the way.
Should I fly into Mombasa or Malindi for Watamu?
Malindi Airport (MYD) is much closer, about 20 km or 20–30 minutes by road. Mombasa has more international flights but the transfer is about 2–2.5 hours. We cover both.
