When a road transfer beats the train or a flight
The SGR is the fastest option for most people. A private road transfer makes sense for families with a lot of luggage, groups who would otherwise buy many tickets, departures outside train times, or travellers who want to stop along the way.
We plan the day with rest and meal stops, and daylight driving wherever possible.
The route and usual stops
The drive follows the A109 Mombasa–Nairobi highway inland through Mariakani, Voi, Mtito Andei, Kibwezi, Emali and Athi River. Voi and Mtito Andei are the usual places to stop for fuel, food and a stretch, and both sit at the edge of Tsavo East and Tsavo West.
Heavy trucks use the same road day and night, so we avoid tight connections and plan the trip to arrive in Nairobi before the evening rush where possible.

Can we stop at Tsavo on the way?
Yes, a roadside stop is easy. A game drive inside the park needs park fees and a suitable safari vehicle, so ask us when you book.
